I live in the Payne district and have a one year old DS. Has the PTA been reconstituted after the old principal shut it down? Are things looking up at the school? I'm eager for any updates from current families about whether this is a viable option beyond preK. Are more in-bounds families going there?
Yes. The whole dram from 5 years ago is well in the past. There is a new principal at Payne this year and she is great. There is growing PTA at Payne. They just put an on an awesome fall festival that raised over $1600 for the school. If you are IB for Payne and didn't see any of the flyers or advertisements on MOTH or Hill East I would be shocked. This year IB students were waitlisted for PK3 so its not a guarantee even if you live in the neighborhood. The main cohort of neighborhood families at Payne are in PK3-K. I'm sure some will leave as their kids get older but the truth of the lottery is there aren't that many options and getting a spot at one of the "better" schools on the Hill is harder and harder.
