My child currently attends CMIT North. Words cannot express how disappointed I am with this school. Some (not all) of the teachers need to be re-evaluated based on a survey that should be provided to the parents to fill out. I guarantee you, if the school board put out a survey grading the teachers, half the staff would be fired. There is a constant rotation of teachers, teachers not putting in grades or claiming schoolmax is having technical difficulties, the 24 or 48 hour window for teachers to respond to emails doesn't even exist, teachers can't control their classes, there's always some technical difficulties going on with that school. One morning I went up to the school for a parent teachers conference and guess what? They couldn't even log onto their machines AND the technical staff wasn't even at work yet. The IT staff should be the first people there before ANYONE arrives to make sure everything is up and running. If this is suppose to be a science and technology school then you need to fire your IT staff. The only technical aspect about this school is their technical difficulties to operate this school like its supposed to be operated. Its apparent they cannot fix the technical issues in a timely fashion. As for the work load. The first quarter was very heavy, so I'm going to assume this was the weeding out process. After the 1st quarter the work load really lightened up. I recall at the beginning of the year all of my child's teachers sent out an email stating "We do not give extra credit and we do not except late assignments unless you have an excused absence." Well, they ate their words for the whole school year. Kids were failing left and right and the only way to help them bring their grades up was to go back on their word. I've seen my child's grade go from a 73 to 95 off of one extra credit assignment. The administrators know what's going on with most of these teachers, but they turn their heads like nothing is going on. A staff member commented on about parents coming to the school EVERYDAY with complaints about teachers (ie Spanish Teachers smh). Yes, I'm going to put it out there. Spanish class isn't "Spanish Class", its free time for the kids. My daughter did not learn anything in her Spanish class partly because she couldn't hear the teacher due to the kids disruptive kids or the teacher just gave up and sat there the whole class. The classrooms are out of control; which prevents those who are there to learn. For those who ask about the different levels. Yes, the kids are placed in different classes based off an assessment test that is given to them the first day of school. If you are going to test kids for a charter school, do it before accepting them, and only take those who score average or above average. If your child is placed in classes 1-3, pull them out and go back to the school they came from. The administrator will give a song and dance about how the numbers just indicated how many classes they have, but that's a bold face lie. Sections 1-3 are what we call remedial classes; 4 and up would be your above average to AP/GT classes. This school is nothing but another public school glorified with the "Charter" in front of the name. Again for those who are coming to the middle school, if your child is placed in 61,62,63(sixth grade level) PULL THEM OUT ASAP!!! I'm trying to save parents a lot of headache and a lot of self esteem issues this school is causing to our kids.
