I honestly can say I respect CMIT Academy. I started CMIT from 6th-12th grade. Honestly, CMIT is a great school for those who want to study a language, going into the sciences, math and I-Tech majors when they go to college. However, if your more interested in the arts, your very outgoing or you even have a slight interest in something else, the school might not be for you exactly. CMIT focuses on the sciences and math a lot. The representatives they bring, focuses on those majors. Of course CMIT wants ALL their students to succeed, it's just some students need a bit more help then others, and that's okay. At first, I hated the school because I didn't understand how it functioned and honestly I was a kid. But CMIT has its perks and ups and downs like any other high school. However, it's academic programs fail to impress me and it's a great progression for those kids who love a challenge.

My daughter is a CMIT elemenatry and personally I am happy with it. I noticed in college that many of my friends who studied science and engineering went to STEM based schools so I really wanted the same for my daughter. I also agree with one of the posters above, the academics are intense but I prefer that over other PG County options where academics aren't stressed enough.

So glad i read these reviews because I'm about to make a decision today about accepting an offer to enroll my child in this program, and i will definitely not accept. This is not the program for him. He would face the same challenges he's currently facing at his current school. Last summer I enrolled him in a math program to fill in alot of gaps that were present from elementary school. All these "special school" programs expect children to teach themselves remotely. That's okay for strong readers if you are enrolled in a read and comprehend class, but i think some subjects like math and science requires strong teacher instruction, so I guess we will have to pay for that from middle school to high school. Truly tragic.

100% High School Graduation Rate, 100% College Acceptances, and 12% of their seniors had earned a 2-yr. Associate Degree in IT from PGCC (ITEC Program) 5 days before their 1st Graduating Class of 2017 received their HS Diplomas. I'm sure that's all just a coincidence.

There's a lot of things that go on in CMIT North. Some bad and some good. The school itself is trying to get better. When my child was in 6th grade, CMIT South and CMIT Elementary had opened. A lot of good teachers had left to those schools. This made the school pretty terrible. I saw a lot of stuff about the hierarchy with higher and lower classes. The school isn't flat out discriminating lower classes and praising the higher classes. A lot of these issues come up with the students. I went in one day and saw chaos. A lot of these kids were screaming mid-class, vandalizing school property, dropping food everywhere. I think teachers should be a bit tougher against kids who are like this. I'm not saying that all kids were like this, but a lot students looked like they didn't care. I saw students pulling out the keys from chromebooks mid-class. But, like I said before the school is getting better. The school used to place kids in classes and named them based on their level. Now they dropped the number thing and call classes by University names. But not all is to blame on students. Teachers can be pretty terrible too. One of the math teachers acts like an elitist. She acts like we should worship her for giving us time. And one of the administrators there is the worst. She has the worst attitude. I don't even know what her role is. She is not a teacher, guidance counselor, secretary, etc. I'm pretty sure she just sits there as an extra. My child told me that once she came barging in taking his food. But a lot of teachers are really good as well. My child's current RELA teacher is amazing. Her assignments really stimulate my child. It's impossible to fail in her class. She has provided a lot of extra credit. The school provides a lot of extracurricular activities to do. They have been adding more sports. Overall, I recommend trying this school out. The school is getting a new building and administration is changing. They've been implementing some new rules to help push ahead of Maryland standards.

Thank you for this honest information, you two! The school sounds so good in theory, but I keep hearing stories like yours. Thank you for sharing

CMIT North is hyped up and most people would not get it until they experience the false hype. My child was in 65 last school year and I pulled him out after 3 weeks of school and sent him back to the private school he previously attended. My neighbor pulled his son out and home schools him, another girl from my son's private school was also pulled out and is back in class with my son at the old school. Just finished talking to a friend who is so disappointed that she is thinking about pulling her daughter. Called my husband to tell him only to find out that his friend pulled his child out too.

I suggest that parents go to the school and find out the rate of pull outs. That maybe the deciding factor. If the school is so great then why are parents pulling out their children?

I can say so much but does not have the time. I did leave a comment on Great schools website last September.

My child currently attends CMIT North. Words cannot express how disappointed I am with this school. Some (not all) of the teachers need to be re-evaluated based on a survey that should be provided to the parents to fill out. I guarantee you, if the school board put out a survey grading the teachers, half the staff would be fired. There is a constant rotation of teachers, teachers not putting in grades or claiming schoolmax is having technical difficulties, the 24 or 48 hour window for teachers to respond to emails doesn't even exist, teachers can't control their classes, there's always some technical difficulties going on with that school.
One morning I went up to the school for a parent teachers conference and guess what? They couldn't even log onto their machines AND the technical staff wasn't even at work yet. The IT staff should be the first people there before ANYONE arrives to make sure everything is up and running. If this is suppose to be a science and technology school then you need to fire your IT staff. The only technical aspect about this school is their technical difficulties to operate this school like its supposed to be operated. Its apparent they cannot fix the technical issues in a timely fashion.

As for the work load. The first quarter was very heavy, so I'm going to assume this was the weeding out process. After the 1st quarter the work load really lightened up. I recall at the beginning of the year all of my child's teachers sent out an email stating "We do not give extra credit and we do not except late assignments unless you have an excused absence." Well, they ate their words for the whole school year. Kids were failing left and right and the only way to help them bring their grades up was to go back on their word. I've seen my child's grade go from a 73 to 95 off of one extra credit assignment.
The administrators know what's going on with most of these teachers, but they turn their heads like nothing is going on. A staff member commented on about parents coming to the school EVERYDAY with complaints about teachers (ie Spanish Teachers smh). Yes, I'm going to put it out there. Spanish class isn't "Spanish Class", its free time for the kids. My daughter did not learn anything in her Spanish class partly because she couldn't hear the teacher due to the kids disruptive kids or the teacher just gave up and sat there the whole class. The classrooms are out of control; which prevents those who are there to learn. For those who ask about the different levels. Yes, the kids are placed in different classes based off an assessment test that is given to them the first day of school. If you are going to test kids for a charter school, do it before accepting them, and only take those who score average or above average. If your child is placed in classes 1-3, pull them out and go back to the school they came from. The administrator will give a song and dance about how the numbers just indicated how many classes they have, but that's a bold face lie. Sections 1-3 are what we call remedial classes; 4 and up would be your above average to AP/GT classes. This school is nothing but another public school glorified with the "Charter" in front of the name. Again for those who are coming to the middle school, if your child is placed in 61,62,63(sixth grade level) PULL THEM OUT ASAP!!! I'm trying to save parents a lot of headache and a lot of self esteem issues this school is causing to our kids.

Past parent of a Kindergartener @ CMIT elementary (as of a week ago) we opted to pull my DD mid year. DD personality was being stifled, not enough play or down time, children were consistently yelled at, TOO much worksheets, not enough hands on learning, unruly children, not enough teacher- student interaction, my child regularly complained of being "shooed away" NO diversity, Also had a terrible experience with the school's STUDENT SHUTTLE Transportation-- who they say are not affiliated with the school, but refer you to. I could go on... The facility is new, state of the art, but wasn't enough. Upon coming into school my child was tested and scored poorly, although she is advanced in many areas, verbal reasoning, math computation, etc etc.. I pulled her and she is a week in at at Private in MOCO (BTW her Wechsler results were through the roof) we are very pleased thus far--Active teaching, less chaos, amazing personalized attention for my child, 11kids vs almost 30, great correspondence between teacher & parent , 2 recesses, Spanish, science lab etc.

Many families are content with CMIT being that it's slim pickings for PG, for our family just had higher standards and couldn't bear my child's unhappiness. It was a challenging, emotional experience withdrawing mid year, but we overcame it!

My daughter attended CMIT Academy for all three years of middle school. She was placed in the highest level class. I would give them a B- as a grade. Why? She did not learn much in her algebra 1 class due to having a substitute teacher for the majority of the school year. This is a major problem for a STEM school. We paid for a math tutor to fill the gaps. She also complained about a few of the classes having a zoo like environment because the teacher could not control the students. We paid for a Geometry tutor because the kids talked so much in class that my child said she could not learn in her Geometry classroom. Well, my daughter made it into Eleanor Roosevelt High School Science and Tech program so I guess CMIT was ok for her. Now my son was a total different experience. He is an average student and his test scores reflect that he was on grade level for sixth grade. CMIT put him in the lowest level which is where they will put your child who is doing well with ON GRADE LEVEL WORK. He was treated like a second class citizen. The expectations were quite different between the highest and lowest level classes. He had an incompetent science teacher but a fantastic math and RELA teacher. But please keep in mind that a lot of the students in his class were not serious about school and may be below grade level. This is a problem if your child is an average student but placed in the same class with below grade level students. And for those who may be skeptics, my son actually had an IQ test along with a full psycho educational test done in November of his 6th grade year and his IQ is slightly above average. He is no dummy but was treated like one. We removed him from CMIT midyear.

Which location are you referring to?

Werrnthe earlier descriptions North or South? I know that South has a brand new building and it seems like it could be an opportunity for the students, parents , faculty and administration to create a unique learning environment. Folks would need to be involved and check their own children's behavior before distracting becomes habit.

I know you posted this a few months ago but IMO I love CMIT so far. The administration, to include the Principal, answers me right away. They seem extremely helpful and they seem to know students very well. The academics, as far as my son goes, is outstanding. By the time he graduates 8th grade he will have 3 or 4 credits. Also they have this new program that hasn't started but is very intense and it's really making me change my mind about sending my son to Bullis (full scholarship).
