The shooter expressed support for al-Nusra (al-Qaida affiliate in Syria), the Tsarnaev brothers (inspired by al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula -- AQAP), ISIS, and Hezbollah. Al-Nusra is fighting ISIS in Syria, Hezbollah is fighting both al-Nusra and ISIS in Syria, and AQAP is fighting ISIS in Yemen. So, that is a very strange list of groups to support.

The reason the white guy caught in LA probably has mental health issues is because he acted weird enough to, first, raise alarm bells and because he actually told the police officer where he was going with the guns, ammo and whatever was in the bucket. He didn't meticulously hide his plan from the authorities. That's a huge red flag to a profiler for actual mental illness. The Orlando shooter made sure no one knew what he was planning. He prepared well and executed his plan - and 50 people.
