There's a woman in my neighborhood who has been living with her parents for six years since her divorce, and a year before that. She's 40+yrs old and makes a sizable salary. Most people around here thinks it's weird and gross. She uses her parents for their mansion and childcare.
Most people around the world would think it's normal, and healthy, for a family to live together. Grandparents looking after the kids, mother working and contributing to the grandparents' upkeep of the home, kids seeing their family... what's not normal about this? The problem is that Americans have gotten way too individualistic and proprietary about their personal space. Suddenly kids sharing a room, or a contributing adult living with parents and kids, are not appropriate anymore? Now THAT is crazy.
