BIL and baby momma claim they PLANNED pregnancy #2 - then, "OOPS, can't afford baby #2, can we come back and live with you guys again?" Then baby momma ran out on her kids so she could go shack up with someone else.

Establishing themselves financially? Would that include spending whatever little money they do have on ginormous tats while claiming they are too poor to feed their kids without help?

I do hope there are some who actually are trying hard to get themselves on their feet - it doesn't include the idiot doing it in our family.

Most of the adult children living with parents who have kids did so because they had an unplanned pregnancy and now need the help of parents to shelter them and take care of their child or children while they try to establish themselves financially.

Re-connected with an old friend after 8 years or so; his oldest of 3 was in college locally and the 2 younger ones were in HS 8 years ago.

All 3 are still living at home today.

This seems to be a thing these days.

Well, my 40-something BIL lives with my MIL (FIL just died) and has his two kids he had out of wedlock with the way-too-young now-ex girlfriend in tow. He contributes very little to the home and grandma was also burdened with childcare duties all while caring for a parapalegic who was bedridden with cancer for almost a year. He probably could move out-they live in a much cheaper area, but that would mean a small apartment, paying for all their food and his kids going to a less desirable school. Why would he ever leave?

I hate him with a fiery passion for the shit he's put his family through.

Most people around the world would think it's normal, and healthy, for a family to live together. Grandparents looking after the kids, mother working and contributing to the grandparents' upkeep of the home, kids seeing their family... what's not normal about this?

The problem is that Americans have gotten way too individualistic and proprietary about their personal space. Suddenly kids sharing a room, or a contributing adult living with parents and kids, are not appropriate anymore? Now THAT is crazy.
