The repercussions of thalidomide were a big problem in Britain in the 50s and 60s. Women were prescribed thalidomide for morning sickness, which resulted in severe birth defects (no arms or legs) in many children. We watch the show and my husband (British) said he knew several people from his school and community with birth defects caused by thalidomide and that it was big news at the time not only because of what happened but also because many of the court cases were happening at the time (late 60s, early 70s).[/quote]
