I have watched quite a few British shows that were awesome but they smartly ended the series after a few seasons. Example - Downton Abbey. Seriously, in the US, this would have dragged on for years a la Law & Order. The British seem to have a better sense that TV shows are story based and once the story plays out, it's ok to end it.
