I know this thread is pretty old but I still came across it so someone else might as well. I am dealing with Shady grove for IVF. I have carefirst HMO in MD (being in MD makes a differwnce due to the mandate) Anyways, as far as getting specifics from your insurance company... call Shady Grove, even if you are not dealing with Shady Grove and ask them to email or fax you a copy of the insurance questionnaire. SO HELPFUL!! Has specific codes on it for procedures and drugs. That way your insurance company can look for the exact thing youre seeking answers to.
This may be an older post, as you already said, but it currently applies to my life and is also EXACTLY what I am looking for! Can it be possible that IVF is covered for some single/unmarried women, but not for others in Maryland with Carefirst? I am in the same situation, wanting IVF to remove eggs, (I will then have to hire a surrogate to carry the embryo). But Shady Grove said NOTHING for IVF is covered. Blood work and HSG and all other procedures were covered, but they said no to IVF... and a nice little price tag of $11,000 for IVF alone! Any suggestions???
11k does not include the meds, which will be another 2-5k. Also, Not sure your medical reasons for using a surrogate, but many women, esp over 35 need 3 rounds of ivf to get viable eggs. Insurance usually covers testing and diagnosis only, not ART - ivf and iui. The plans that do cover ART generally require proof of marriage and sometimes require you to try iui before proceeding to ivf. SG generally knows their stuff as they are the largest game in town. Many single women on here have turned to international clinics to save money, you can start a thread asking for their advice if that's something you'd be open to. Good luck.
