This crime is tragic, but completely ordinary in terms of the tragedy, i.e., women are killed by their domestic partners far too often. Sometimes, their children are killed, too.

The NW fire thread was about 400 pages, I think. Not just because of the race of the victims, but their wealth, as well as the callousness - and sheer length - of the crime. Many of us feel vulnerable to a home invasion. It seems random and unlikely but terrifying. Most of us are inured to the specter of domestic violence because those sorts of crimes happen so frequently, and we hear about individual cases so often. So I would argue that race isn't what differentiates these crimes.

Plus we know that people on this board can care deeply about a random, awful crime that didn't happen to a white person. I can't be the only one who is still haunted by Relisha Rudd's case. I honestly cried more than once for that little girl.
