The mom did and took that guy to court and a DNA test determined he wasn't the father. So she took the suspect to court and he was pronounced the father. Thank goodness he's locked up now.

Before they named the suspect and his age, I assumed it was someone who was married or prominent or had something to lose by having a child outside of his current family structure. Not saying that would make it more palatable but it blows my mind that a 26 year old man would eliminate a kid he helped create all because of a $600 monthly child support payment. Either he was a closeted monster or he just snapped at the thought of having to take care of a child he only recently discovered was his.

I'm just sick at the thought of some deranged monster killing a 2 yr old strapped in her carseat. Based on how what I read in the paper, it seems like the person shot the baby first and then the mom got and screamed and tried to intervene. Just sickening!!!

One of my closest friends (with 2 children) refused to ask for financial support from her husband when he divorced her to be with another woman. She worked two jobs and busted her hump to provide for her children after he left her with nothing. I could never understand how she just let him off of the hook. She said to me, "he's crazy. If I try to get a dime out of him he may kill me and my children." I remember it like it was yesterday.

Race is irrelevant here; the real human tragedy is that a child - a baby really, was killed strapped into her car seat.

WTF?? And her own father did it?? Just unbelievably horrible, evil, etc.

Also, before I had kids, these disturbing crimes were disturbing to me.

But after becoming a parent myself, I am just so much more more, sickened by crimes were a child is hurt or killed.

This crime is tragic, but completely ordinary in terms of the tragedy, i.e., women are killed by their domestic partners far too often. Sometimes, their children are killed, too.

The NW fire thread was about 400 pages, I think. Not just because of the race of the victims, but their wealth, as well as the callousness - and sheer length - of the crime. Many of us feel vulnerable to a home invasion. It seems random and unlikely but terrifying. Most of us are inured to the specter of domestic violence because those sorts of crimes happen so frequently, and we hear about individual cases so often. So I would argue that race isn't what differentiates these crimes.

Plus we know that people on this board can care deeply about a random, awful crime that didn't happen to a white person. I can't be the only one who is still haunted by Relisha Rudd's case. I honestly cried more than once for that little girl.

Oh I'm not the PP questioning why this isn't being discussed more - I was just wondering why folks were so quick to jump to the conclusion that it was about the money...that dude just said, "Well 600/mth is too much so I'm going to kill them both." If that's the case then money wasn't his motivation, madness was - cause that's just plain psychotic to kill your own damn child cause you don't wanna hand over the money. Now I don't doubt the judgement played a part, but I think it was more an issue of custody not cash. Witnesses said they heard the victim arguing with a man before the shots rang out. There's nothing to argue about if the court says you gotta pay but if you don't have joint custody and want to see your child that is something I see folks argue about and eventually getting so worked up that...well...
