I recommend looking for hotels or condos on the Western side of the Island:  Maho on the Dutch side and Baie Longue on the French.  Even if youre closer to the very touristy Philipsburg or Orient Beach, it's so easy to rent a car and just explore the island with little worry.[/quote]
