It's a private island just south of St. Lucia, just north of Grenada. Seclusion, butler service, totally romantic.

But I think you have to get a week at a time and you better really get along with each other very well because you are truly alone except for staff.

NP here. Great tip! One day

7 days is only required two weeks out of the year. 12/20 - 1/4

22:38 again. If you like a little action in your romantic getaway, I highly recommend the French side of the tiny island of St Martin/Sint Maartin. We've been there several times and Baie Rouge on the far western end remains my absolute favorite beach in the Caribbean. There are no fancy resorts, no crowds, no snoot, just a little shack that serves beer, mixed drinks and hamburgers in an unassuming cove with calm water and a handful of happy people.

The island itself is small enough that you can stay on the same road and drive the perimeter in about an hour (unless it's rush hour). Cruise ships and timeshares dominate the Dutch side but there's also fine dining and an authentic European feel to the French side, e.g., you can get up early for real croissants in Marigot and exercise your French with the natives.

I recommend looking for hotels or condos on the Western side of the Island: Maho on the Dutch side and Baie Longue on the French. Even if youre closer to the very touristy Philipsburg or Orient Beach, it's so easy to rent a car and just explore the island with little worry.

We stayed at a B&B in Soufriere and although we did not stay at Anse Chastenet/Jade Mtn I can vouch that the snorkeling and rum drinks there were very good, better than in front of the Hilton or at the Soufriere beach. I do not know why people travel to St. Lucia if they are not going to get a room with a view of the Pitons. We stayed at La Haut. It is more of small hotel, not 5 star but the atmosphere/views are superb.

The nicer resorts and islands in the carribbean are harder to get to and four days isn't enough time. You should either go somewhere with a direct flight (Miami, Bahamas etc). Even then four days is barely enough time. Can you wait until you have more time? The viceroy Anguilla is awesome.

is this recommendation current? i heard Cap is out of favor now. OP double check this one.

Yes. Also try St Bart's. Four Seasons Nievis is renowned as a great kids hotel. Stay away if it is a romantic getaway you're looking for.

Disagree about the four seasons Nevis, very few kids there when we went, tons of honeymooners.

We went in the spring for a pre-baby-arrival vacation a few years ago and there were minimal kids there. Very quiet and relaxing. More kids at Nisbet Plantation -- if you wanted to avoid all kids could try one of the Inns on the island (very much focused on romance/adults -- Golden Rock, Hermitage, or Montpelier. Downside is they're not beach-front.) Nevis in general is not a big, loud family destination. Island is small, not heavily developed, the big resorts and houses/condos are on St Kitts.

There are 3 options for getting to Virgin Gorda:

DC -> SJU or STT -> VIJ (Air Sunshine, Cape Air)

DC -> SJU or STT -> EIS (Seaborne, I think they partner with AA now) and then ~30 min ferry

DC -> STT and 90 min ferry
