The finale was incredibly stupid. Honestly, Gillian Anderson's fake British accents makes me want to punch something. I think she peaked on the original X-files.
Fake? No, she is British and partly raised in the USA. The accent is for reals (as Holder in The Killing would say)
She's not British at all. She spent elementary school in England, but returned to the US at age nine (I believe). Her parents are American. So her accent is pretty believable, but still fake.
She lived in the UK from ages 1-11 and she's lived in London That's pretty significant. Her accent and her passport are a "thing" Anderson is bidialectal. With her English accent and background, she was mocked and felt out of place in the American Midwest and soon adopted a Midwestern accent. To this day, her accent depends on her location, as she easily shifts between her American and English accents.[24] In May 2013, during an interview with BlogTalkRadio, Anderson addressed the matter of her national identity: "I've been asked whether I feel more like a Brit than an American and I don't know what the answer to that questions is. I know that I feel that London is home and I'm very happy with that as my home. I love London as a city and I feel very comfortable there. In terms of identity, I'm still a bit baffled."[25] --wikipedia
