Did you ever notice that actual British people don't vary their accents wildly when they play different roles. She was dreadful in Great Expectations and annoying in the Fall.
Her Lady Dedlock was passable; it was most like her Scully voice just British. The most damning thing though, she kept doing "duck face" throughout Bleak House. Dickens is rolling in his grave.

Fake? No, she is British and partly raised in the USA. The accent is for reals (as Holder in The Killing would say)
She's not British at all. She spent elementary school in England, but returned to the US at age nine (I believe). Her parents are American. So her accent is pretty believable, but still fake.
