So I posted one of these recently during a visit (admittedly I've lived in North Carolina for years now so I didn't know that it was frowned upon) and I'm not disagreeing because you have a LOT more experience with this, but frankly, what I saw was awful and I guess I would desperately want to know if my childcare provider was acting like this. And I just don't know what else to do when the behavior is not illegal but certainly verbally abusive, other than post here, so if you have suggestions, I'd love to know them. It's just that this is the hub for things like this. Anyway, I'm wanting very much to be respectful, but if anyone HAS suggestions for where this stuff belongs, and would be seen, I'd love to know it. What I saw was bad enough to wear I spoke to the woman, but I'm just not sure what else there is to do.
You realize that there are hundreds, maybe even a few thousand readers on DCUM. While the majority are from the DC metro area, there are many from other states and even a few from other countries here. There are about 2 million households in the DC metro area. Less than 1% of the households in the region are represented here. What do you think the chances are that one individual family that you see has a parent that is on this web-site and also will catch the posting? Pretty miniscule. If the issues is abusive, contact the police or social services. You can also go up and be nice to the child. Sometimes the nanny may just need a few moments to step back and take a look at herself or the situation and calm down to right the situation. But coming and posting on an anonymous message board is the worst case of making yourself feel better for having done something when you've really done virtually nothing and left a child in an abusive situation. Defuse the situation or call someone else to help. Don't just ignore it and post about it.
