He is totally in the closet, and she is never going to win over his family and friends.  His mother was so awful at the bridal salon.  She looked like she was there to witness an execution.  And how about the side-eye from the girl at the cookout?

This is disturbing as well.  How bad was her life in Thailand that she wants to live in that roach-infested dump with the creepy bartender and stoner friend?

He seems like a nice guy, but is clearly using her to get to the US.  Melanie seemed surprised to learn during the meeting with his mom that she (Melanie) was basically his backup plan when his mother's plan to get him to the US did not pan out.
