Even if your neighbors didn't discriminate against you or treat you differently, it could still feel really weird to be the "only" anything in a neighborhood. I wouldn't want to be the only white family on the block - I'd assume I'd probably get left out of stuff and the other families would be wondering what we were doing there. (I'd feel the same if it were all black, asian or hispanic families.) I think it's normal to want to see some people who look like you when you look around. (similarly, I wouldn't want to be the only female in my work department or the only working mom on a block of all SAHMs.)
I think this depends on the neighborhood. We were the second non-Hispanic white household on our block. People were very nice and welcoming but it wasn't like all the neighbors socialized with each other. I suppose it would be different if it were a neighborhood where people invited each other to their homes. I didn't feel left out because people were friendly and chatted each other up on the street and they included me in that. I don't think they wondered what we were doing there. They probably figured we wanted to buy that cheap house which had sat unused for three years prior.
