It doesn't give a racial breakdown, but there are several EOTP areas that relatively affluent. Of course, some of these areas are gentrified, but some are still majority AA.

I don't think Colonial Village is majority Black, Shepherd park sure but save for the little part by 16th st Colonial Village is very white.


According to 2010 Census info, the area encompassing Shepherd Park, Colonial Village, and North Portal Estates is 69% non-Hispanic black, 24% non-Hispanic white, 5.1% Hispanic, and 1.8% Asian. It doesn't break the Colonial Village subsection out by demographics, but these stats make it doubtful that Colonial Village is "very white."

Here is a list of wealthy neighborhoods that are not majority black, but have a relatively high black population. Not sure I understand the methodology though.

Not one of the top 1000 neighborhoods is majority black, telling. I bet most of those neighborhoods listed as the "top black" wouldn't even consider them self black neighborhoods

Your list is not accurate because it did not show the least diverse neighborhoods. It showed majority white neighborhoods (some as low as the 60% range that should not have been on your list). Your list left off many neighborhoods that are far less diverse.

The list is not sorted according to any measure of "diversity." It is sorted in descending order by mean household income. That's why Spring Valley is on the top despite being "more diverse" than any of the Chevy Chases or Georgetown.

I know its far from DC but I was really pleasantly surprised when I moved to my home recently in Centreville/ Chantilly area to find my subdivision had more diversity than my old condo neighborhood in N. Arlington.

I didn't want to move to the farther out burbs so I am happy to hold on to the pleasant surprises.

I think this depends on the neighborhood. We were the second non-Hispanic white household on our block. People were very nice and welcoming but it wasn't like all the neighbors socialized with each other. I suppose it would be different if it were a neighborhood where people invited each other to their homes. I didn't feel left out because people were friendly and chatted each other up on the street and they included me in that. I don't think they wondered what we were doing there. They probably figured we wanted to buy that cheap house which had sat unused for three years prior.

Sure, I don't know if we necessarily would be treated differently--I would just honestly feel really conspicuous. I'm sure a white family living in an all AA neighborhood would feel the same way. I like to blend in a bit more than that demographic breakdown would allow--at least 5-10% AA would be more desirable for our family. And indeed, there are several other nice MoCo neighborhoods that meet that threshold.
