I have been to a couple of "mixed" SN/not pool parties this year in the 6-8 age range this year that were a big hit, at Kids First in Rockville. They have a big indoor pool for lessons that they keep at 90 degrees (which BTW is a whole different world for getting your kids to be OK with swim lessons, vs what we all remember as kids). This time of year I imagine you want to be out of doors, but I wanted to throw that out there for whoever searches this thread in 6 months when it's miserable out.
This is a nice idea but not all kids can swim and I would not be ok in less my husband could go in and supervise our child.
They have a shallow end and every kid has to pass a swim test before they can go past the rope. At one of the parties I went to there were maybe 20 kids there and only two ever left the shallow end. Plenty of nonswimmers. And parents can get in too, and some did.
