I for one am not sweating it in reality, but I am super curious. But our kid has no business being in AAP even if she qualified. She is way too high strung and would be a disaster.
I'm curious - what makes you say that? My DD is pretty intense and I find AAP a good fit for her. She's in 5th grade now. Her AAP teachers have all seemed better equipped to deal with her "big emotions" than the Gen Ed teachers did. I feel like she's found her tribe.
She hates failure or the perception of failure, hates not being perfect at everything. She is very hard on herself. I am not saying I am trying to avoid these things for her, but I can see meltdowns in her future if she didn't excel at what was supposed to be a special opportunity. She scored super high on the NNAT, so qualifies per those scores, I guess, I don't know how it works. She is incredibly smart, but her personality, I don't see it. Maybe in time, but not yet, I don't think. Nonetheless, I am curious about her scores and eligibility even though we don't plan on doing anything with it. I just like to know!:) I am big child.
Perfectionism and fear of failure is super common in gifted kids. I think it's better to expose them to challenging material at a young age so that they learn to how to deal with it.
