It's no way to treat a regular customer IMO, unless it happens regularly enough that they actually don't care or don't want you to come back. If they feel like your business is not profiting them because the stress it causes, they may just want you to stop coming. But if you are not usually a problem customer, yeah, I think it is a strange way to treat a regular customer.
+1 It was bad on their part to talk like this to a regular customer. If you were a repeat offender, that's one thing. But once? They should have let it go - and you were perfectly within your rights telling them that they were being obnoxious hypocrites. Now, I will tell you one time I had a little tantrum at the place where I get my hair cut (it was right before my wedding, and I was running quite late, but I think there was enough time for them to give me a trim if not a full cut; they wouldn't do it). I made a big scene - mostly just pre-wedding nerves, but also feeling really wronged that they weren't being flexible when they'd kept me waiting before and I was a regular customer - but later called to apologize and went back, even though I continue to think we were both being shitty there. In the end, sucking it up was better for me than finding a new place to get my hair cut.
