My aunt has lived there for 30 years so I've been quite a bit, but always staying at her rental property in Cayman Kai (north side of the island, near the satellite day-trip Hyatt?? I think property). I think the island is very Americanized. It doesn't have the natural beauty that St. John or St. Lucia does (from the pictures I've seen, I've never been). It's definitely on the pricey side. Stingray city is amazing but I'm pretty sure they do not allow tourists to go and harass the stingrays anymore. I used to go as a kid and then the times I've been in the last five years, it hasn't been allowed. Smith Cove is one of my favorite places on earth. It's never crowded when I've been and is just beautiful. The blowholes on the eastern side of the island make for a fun drive and walking-around tour. I think the north side of the island is beautiful. I've loved renting my aunt's house, walking to the Hyatt property, driving to the Yacht Club or Beach Club I think for the occasional meal out, but largely hanging out and relaxing.
We took a tour boat to stingray city for spring break this year -- so definitely still allowed. True, the island itself is not the most beautiful. It's all about the water and undersea living. You must snorkel, SCUBA or take the submarine tour.
