OP in addition to trying things like getting enough sleep, not drinking alcohol, eating well, working out, cutting out toxic people(alcoholics, people with anger issues) try to make some small positive changes in your life. I find that my life is very routine. There are some things I love about my routine and some things I find myself saying the same negative thoughts in my head. Like, "I hate this intersection" or "that person really annoys me" everyday. I did read this somewhere that people have the same negative thoughts in their head daily and small changes can help break the cycle. So I try to incorporate new things in my routine to create new thoughts in my head. Like driving a different route, or mentally cutting people out of my life that bother me and spending more time with people I like. Sometimes doing other small things like going to a new grocery store, turning off the bad news tv, planning a trip to a new destination, calling an old friend, watching DVDs with shows from childhood, visiting an animal shelter, making a new meal, playing a card game can lift your mood. I try and make an effort to cut out the negative stuff I can or trying some small new or different things can change your perspective. If you practice this DAILY you may find that eventually you have more good days than bad. Also when you have negative thoughts, tell yourself to stop and try and think of something that is not negative. All of this takes a conscious daily effort. Good luck. I know life can feel overwhelming and tough sometimes.
