My DD applied and was accepted to C of C as one of her safeties and, thankfully, she has chosen another school to attend - more liberal in the NE. We were always a but weary of her going to school in the South (herself included) for these reasons. Now I'm glad she's not there since I wouldn't want her school to be guided by someone who has no clue about education. Why in the world would any reputable college hire someone to lead it who has never worked in the education field!?
McConnell's hiring was the fault of the state legislature. The faculty and student body are pretty upset.
I'm the PP. I know it's the state legislatures fault. My original post wasn't written too well (probably distracted), but I still can't believe this type of thing is happening…Separation of church and state, anyone….? Again, SO glad my kid has enough sense at the tender age of 18 to stay FAR away from the South. Sorry, Southerns, don't mean to offend, but if you're truly enlightened you would recognize some of the problems that continue to fester in the the South. FWIW - I would probably say the same thing about some areas of the Midwest and I grew up there!
Please. We just toured Southern schools, though not C of C. Beautiful campuses, great weather, and the people were so much friendlier than in the North. There's a reason why the Sunbelt keeps growing.
Please. The beautiful campuses and nice weather do not make up for the racism and xenophobia that still exist - often times very openly. The South is fine if you are white, straight and preferably a little wealthy. Also, beware of the Southern friendliness….they may be smiling to your face while planning your destruction behind your back (something told to me by a number of native Southerns). I'm not so sure about the Sunbelt growing since I don't have any statistics about that in particular, but hopefully if it grows and expands in terms of the types of people living there some of these negatives will soften with time. Probably not in my lifetime, though.
+1
