No duh, 21:48. Docs don't prescribe antibiotics for colds or sniffles. And that has nothing to do with opting out of vaccinations. Didn't some kid recently die from chickenpox? Could've sworn I saw a headline about it today.
Every time there is a post about a cough/cold/fever, people always say - go to the ped! Get medical attention. You don't really need medical attention for coughs, colds and low grade fevers. Those can be managed at home. I too use compresses for fevers and many other non medical approaches to managing run of the mill illnesses. Many times kids are given antibiotics without being tested to ensure it is a bacterial infection. My kids have rarely been to doctors except for annual checkups and vaccinations. They are pretty healthy and their illnesses are managed through home remedies. A couple times a sore throat has persisted a long time so we have gone in to make sure it wasn't strep and once my son went to the ER because his fever spiked and wouldn't come down but I am with her that there is no need to run to the doctor or get a prescription or even use all the over the counter meds for colds / coughs. So she uses eucalyptus oil for a stuffy nose - if it works I say go for it. And she puts cold clothes on his head if he has a low grade fever - again if it works - great. I am very pro vax. Don't agree with her on that point.
