For those who have been brainwashed into thinking they cannot wear shorts, here's some medicine for your soul: http://www.wardrobeoxygen.com/2013/05/can-every-body-wear-shorts.html Everyone deserves to be as comfortable as possible in hot DC summers.
I actually don't find shorts comfortable in hot weather, especially shorter shorts. I actually find that the area behind my knees sweats and gets sticky. Wearing cotton capris that come just below the knee is actually the most comfortable thing to wear. Honestly, I think Indians have it figured out best -- cotton salwar kameez is actually the most comfortable and flattering thing to wear in hot, humid weather. I take issue with the idea that exposing more skin makes you more comfortable in hot weather. I think it's actually the opposite. lightweight, breathable fabric is the key; not necessarily less clothing.
