We made ours into a library/study. Built-ins, a free standing desk and chair, nice couch and a wooden filing cabinet. DH does work there, and I do filing, bills, etc. when the kids get older, it can be the quiet study room :).
I think I would do this. Combination library/study/storage room. Just make sure that the "storage cabinets" are elegant/nice looking pieces and I'll bet it could be quite pretty.
I would love a real study/library so this would be my idea. Add French doors and it becomes a great quiet space. Alternatively, the game room is a great idea. If it's appealing to you, it will make you the go-to house for your kids and their friends to hang out as teens. Pool or ping pong table, tv and video games, whatever your family likes. Comfy seating, including some of those big bean bag chairs that kids can sprawl out on.
