If it's a big party, OP probably wants to wear something she likes and that makes her feel good, not just whatever acceptable thing she can dig up at Target or Marshall's. And since OP doesn't own anything navy, it's probably safe to say it's a color she does not feel is flattering to her. So if she buys something navy for this event, she is unlikely to wear it again. I think the cousin's request is ridiculous. OP's plan sounds fine to me, although this is definitely a post where there appears to be a lot of detail and family history that may make things less black and white. [/quote]
