I'd just wear something black if I didn't have navy blue. Close enough and will blend in fine.

There is a HUGE difference in expecting guests to do something "kooky" (like participate in a game) and expecting guests to shell out a ton of money to dress a specific way for your party, when they are already expected to shell out money for a gift.

No, she sort of expects everyone to dress very formal, like a wedding. DH helpfully reminded me that her specific request was "navy blue and white." I am not going to get into her other requests/expectations. If it were a jeans sort of affair I wouldn't complain, but do you think someone making this type of request is going for a casual affair?

I have no idea what she's looking for. It could very well be casual/nice - white polo/dark blue pants for the men. White blouse/sweater and dark blue skirt/pants for the ladies. Or something along those lines. Certainly not unheard of. What are your parents wearing?

That is one of those request that seems reasonable to the bride (zilla) and crazy and inconvenient to everyone else.

NP here. If it's a big party, OP probably wants to wear something she likes and that makes her feel good, not just whatever acceptable thing she can dig up at Target or Marshall's. And since OP doesn't own anything navy, it's probably safe to say it's a color she does not feel is flattering to her. So if she buys something navy for this event, she is unlikely to wear it again.

I think the cousin's request is ridiculous. OP's plan sounds fine to me, although this is definitely a post where there appears to be a lot of detail and family history that may make things less black and white.
