She didn't spend Thanksgiving here and won't be here for Christmas. She goes to her family. She knows we barely have enough money to provide gifts for our three younger children, so trying to provide gifts for her and my older son is a stretch. I am on disability with limited income. We will hang a stocking for her and provide gifts one way or another. For the lovely people who made the comments 8:37 and 8:43, thank you for you less than pleasant comments. I'm sorry if I seemed inconsiderate to you for even asking the question. I was thrown into this situation without knowing at first, so I'm still figuring things out. It is Christmas, so try to be a little more considerate in your response. Cursing is uncalled for.
It isn't the money, but the thought. Like someone posted, a dollar store stocking and a few other items from the dollar store that are geared around what you know about her will go a long way to make her feel included. She already knows that money is tight so she shouldn't be expecting a lot. But things like socks if you know that she likes to wear them on cold floors or snacks that she enjoys or something else small that she would appreciate will make her feel included. And you can get these things at the dollar store so that you spend what you can afford. Do the same for your oldest son. They are old enough to understand the realities that there isn't a lot of money to spend, but also need to be included to know that they are a valued part of the family. And yes, as long as she is dating your son and living under your roof she is a part of your family.
