Except that the title of OP's post wasn't "how do I prevent the cycle of absentee parenting?". Her question, and a good one, was how to diplomatically handle another individual's thoughtless behavior. Perhaps OP could benefit from therapy. I know some of my girlfriends who married complete @ssholes certainly could. But society doesn't breezily scold them about their poor choices because marriage, regardless of mate quality, is considered more acceptable in our society. Really, the infantilization of single mothers is quite insulting. [/quote]
