See if she can get another u/s next week. If there's a heartbeat at 9 weeks, the probability of a miscarriage plummets and she'll have greater reassurance that her pregnancy will continue. Most women don't find out that they've had a late miscarriage until 12 weeks when they have their first OB appointment. But then when the doctor does the exam, he/she can often see that fetus stopped growing somewhere around 8.5 weeks or earlier.
+1000
-1000. Measured small at 7 weeks. Measured fine at 9 weeks. Saw the heartbeat both times. Missed MC at 13 weeks, stopped growing sometime between 9 and 10 weeks. I truly hope this does not happen to you.
I'm sorry for your loss. The fact remains that an overwhelming majority of miscarriages occur prior to 9 weeks. Does this mean there are no miscarriages after 9 weeks? Of course not. But if you see a heartbeat at 9 weeks (also assuming that fetal age is accurate), the probability a miscarriage does drop significantly. The loss rate between 8.5 weeks and birth is about 2%.
