A parent organized bus (traditional yellow school bus) currently uses the folloing route to Yu Ying: 1. Georgetown 2. Mt. Pleasant 3. U Street + 14th Some Chevy Chase / AU Park families use the bus on a "drop in" basis by driving to Mt Pleasant for the 7:45 stop in the am. Each year demand for additional routes and stops is evaluated by parent coordinators. AU/Chevy Chase always seem to come close to having critical mass but come up just short.
There is another bus route, on the Hill. That one does a morning trip, but I think (hopefully someone will chime in on this) there is a choice between two evening trips: one right after school, and the other after REEF (aftercare). Also, I think that one is the vans, not the yellow "Starfleet" schoolbus. The upper NW neighborhoods have critical mass for a bus, however not enough have committed to it to make a viable route - yet. (I think the magic number is 10.) There are a lot of carpools. It's pretty easy to organize carpools, there's a google map that goes around at the beginning of the year so people can plot their coordinates.
