2. What happens if they don’t pass the exam? [b]They do not get a verified credit towards graduation. If they only fail by a little bit, they will be remediated and get a second attempt to pass. If they fail again, they'll get intensive supports to take it the next year, and/or they'll take the SOL for the next course in sequence and hope to pass that[/b]
3. How difficult are these exams? [b]They are the bare minimum to show competency. Not a big deal for a diligent student who can retain information beyond the current unit. Difficult if your teacher is out for half the year and you have a mish mash of subs, or if the content isn't taught at a pace to get through the curriculum before the test.[/b]
4. How stressed out are students, teachers and parents regarding the SOLs? [b]Depends on the school. Title 1/low income schools stress a lot because accreditation is at risk if kids (and beyond that, specific subgroups) don't pass at proper rates. At wealthier schools, they are basically just a nuisance.[/b][/quote]
