Ha - my 4th grader just got a 600 on his VA History SOL. He's obsessed with history and says he wants to be a history professor when he grows up. He also thinks this is going to make him rich, which we've been trying to dispel...

i think it depends on the school/AAP versus gened. my daughter took 4 SOLs this year. she got perfect on 2 of them. and she got perfect on her ones in previous years. in AAP classes most kids get pass advanced. some kids also get easier questions than others. i work in fcps and can see the SOL breakdowns of questions right/wrong and the level of difficulty. some kids get easier tests than others. i wouldn’t read too much into a perfect score. not once had a teacher even acknowledged my kids 600s
Mine also got two out of four 600s and has one previous 600. Does it matter if the teacher says anything?
Teachers are focused on other things - I am focused on remediation of my students that didn't pass.
no it doesn’t matter if teachers say anything. i meant that in i wouldn’t make a big deal out of 600s because teachers and schools don’t even acknowledge it. my kids are in AAP. no one is failing/needing remediation so my kid’s teachers aren’t focused on that.

Anonymous wrote:My kid is transferring to our local public high school in August. They did Catholic K-8. I have a few questions regarding the SOLs:
1. What is the benefit of getting a top SOL score?
2. What happens if they don’t pass the exam?
3. How difficult are these exams?
4. How stressed out are students, teachers and parents regarding the SOLs?
