Guess schools learned nothing from their AP debacle about avoiding anti-competitive behavior. This sort of group action just chums the waters for another federal investigation.
Coordinating the application and decision calendar helps families. Schools are not required to follow the AISGW guidelines, but most if not all do, most of the time. Last year a couple schools actually had different dates for notification, probably because of how spring break fell on the calendar. If you’d really like to have to make a decision when school A demands a deposit 3 weeks before school B notifies of decisions and your preferred school C wants a signed contract and full-tuition due date just a week later, good luck with that insanity.
Right?! There is a difference between anti-competitive behavior and basic market coordination. A shared deadline makes the process more transparent and prevents families from holding multiple spots, which actually improves movement for everyone. Additionally colleges and public schools use the May 1st deadline so it isn't like any option is being excluded. One person wishing they had more time to make a decision doesn't make the deadline any less valid...
