4.45 is high but not top10-15% at TJ, plus there were likely issues with coursework. UVa cares a lot about what courses are taken compared to what is offered at the school. 1580 with a choice to avoid even one of the harder courses will be judged harsher than a 1450 with the same coursework and GPA. This was with very hard courses. AI 1 and 2; Computer Vision 1 and 2; Neuroscience etc
I guess they felt he won't accept so thought they would give it to someone who accepts.

I think they are experts at sensing. Yeah he has other admissions already he is excited about and waiting for Ivies next[/quote]
