I remember having to have an interview for some schools. No essays is crazy.

Why do schools do this? Why would anyone want this? Go back to having essays and make it worth someones time to apply and consider an applicant.

I am curious if the supps will return next year? They are now widely used for kids to tell their story, which is how schools can legally achieve a diverse class. Because of the heat directed at UVA last year, scrapping them may have been a short term defensive strategy. It might not be a permanent choice by the AOs.

I think it is really unfair to kids at TJ and, to a lesser extent, kids at McLean, Langley, and others. But it is not yield protection. State schools don't do that - period. How do I know? For one thing common sense. There are many people, my own son included, who will choose UVA over an Ivy simply because of the cost. And second, because I have seen the Naviance at McLean and there is an upper corner that is a sea of green; as you go down or left there start to be wait-list diamonds; as you leep going down and left it starts to be a mix and so on. It is crazy but 4.45 probably isn't in the sea of green at TJ, it is in the mixed part.

Interesting - how can they sense it without any supplemental essays? There's not even a why uva essay anymore?

I think they are experts at sensing. Yeah he has other admissions already he is excited about and waiting for Ivies next

EA got deferred because of GPA 4.36. They removed the essays so it is all hard numbers they care about
