St Peter still has a long waitlist. Middle school siblings have not been able to get in that have younger siblings enrolled. In younger grades like PK and K even some non Catholics have been admitted! Keep hearing from a realtor friend that many families on the hill and just generally are staying in their homes longer due to interest rates and home prices. Whereas previously people would move to burbs before middle school. The hill public middle schools are very middle of road and St Peter is a better option but not many spaces. It’s a great school and community.
I realize this is the private school forum so I won't dwell on this, but as a parent who is familiar with both sectors, several of the Capitol Hill DCPS schools are increasing in popularity and enrollment, probably due at least partially to the same reasons your friend mentioned. By high school many of the families in the middle schools are looking at privates or application publics. There are some families who are staying for Eastern, but that is a slower process. Agree with the poster above - building a new school, requires a lot of space. So if a private school is not getting land/funding from the city like a public school is, it would be very expensive to build in a new neighborhood/development.
