It is comments like this that make me really understand why the city is going to crap. Stupid ideas that people grab onto without thinking for one single second. The issue isn't the lack of space in the nearby public schools.

Keep hearing from a realtor friend that many families on the hill and just generally are staying in their homes longer due to interest rates and home prices. Whereas previously people would move to burbs before middle school. The hill public middle schools are very middle of road and St Peter is a better option but not many spaces.

It’s a great school and community.

I realize this is the private school forum so I won't dwell on this, but as a parent who is familiar with both sectors, several of the Capitol Hill DCPS schools are increasing in popularity and enrollment, probably due at least partially to the same reasons your friend mentioned. By high school many of the families in the middle schools are looking at privates or application publics. There are some families who are staying for Eastern, but that is a slower process. Agree with the poster above - building a new school, requires a lot of space. So if a private school is not getting land/funding from the city like a public school is, it would be very expensive to build in a new neighborhood/development.

The section of DC with the stadium has plenty of space for a new private high school and the housing and development.
No one on the hill sends their kids to Eastern HS.

This is an oversimplification of a complex issue. We also need housing and economic development for Hill East. The stadium deal, which is what was there before mind you, will provide those vital, revenue generating community needs.

Very true. Plus, there are public schools on the hill. People are lamenting the lack of private school options, which means a private school has to decide to open up on the hill (buy/lease a site, invest in the school, etc) …has nothing to do with what DC govt sets aside land for.

A ton of privates now send buses to Capitol Hill. So if you want more options for your Hill kid and don’t want to drive, you have it!

It's not a good point. Eastern Hill School is .2 miles away from the stadium site.

Please ignore this ignorant troll. I live on the Hill. Both my kids went to Capitol Hill Day School. The nice thing about the Hill is that kids from all these elementary schools, public and private, know and socialize with one another. There is a real sense of community. I agree we need another accessible private high school (Don't forget Gonzaga) but if anyone knows anything about the Hill they know that a lack of space is the issue.

I agree, we applied to St. Peter’s, non parish, minority applicant, we were waitlisted of course and I truly feel we would have gotten in from
How they kept courting and contacting us but we went with a better fit.

Honestly I will never understand what people are so afraid of or why they spend so much of their energy being angry. Life's too short to get bothered about how other people enjoy spending their time.
