Marshall HS was never eligible to opt-in. I don't think they'd open up opt-in to other HSs because the whole point of opt-in is to gauge interests in potential HSs that are in-boundary candidates, such as South Lake, Oakton, Westfield etc. I suggest you should look into Curriculum Program transfer https://www.fcps.edu/about-fcps/registration/transfer-information/high-school-curricular-program You might apply for this program to attend desired school for unique curriculums they provide. Of course, I have no idea if Skyview is offering the aviation courses your son is interested in, or when they are going to publish aviation related curriculum for us to see, but this is the general approach I'd take for Marshall to Skyview transfer.
Marshall was not available during the initial opt-in period because it was limited to the 5 HS that could be effected by the boundary shift caused by Skyview. There has been speculation that the opt-in numbers could be used to finalize what schools are moved to Skyview but no one in FCPS has said that or implied that. The only schools that people seem to think are being decided between are Crossfield and Fox Mill. Most everyone is certain that Oak Hill, Floris (maybe all of it), McNair, and Coates are going to be moved to Skyview. Floris seems to be happy and Oak Hill seems resigned to moving. I have not heard much from people out of McNair or Coates on this board and I don't know families from either school so I have no clue how they feel. Fox Mill is split on the idea, some are excited and want it, others don't. Crossfield seems opposed but there are a few who really want to move. What i am getting at is the idea that the numbers are being used to determine interest might be true, we don't know, but I suspect it would only impact Crossfield and Fox Mill. I don't think Skyview is available on the transfer portal. No one has reported that it is so I really don't know. But Mr. Jagels said that there are seats available and that they would accept kids from outside the original 5 schools.
