I know it's not the "it" major, but you can't go wrong with accounting. https://cpatrendlines.com/2025/05/08/gen-z-surges-into-accounting-for-all-the-reasons-your-mother-told-you/?srsltid=AfmBOoq9Lg28DGqW7oCuzZWBTa71Owpx1-hgKrnkrzi8ccWzh9nAippS https://joinhandshake.com/blog/network-trends/gen-z-accounting-careers/ I concentrated in marketing, but in hindsight, should've done accounting. I pivoted to the finance side later, which better fits my personality and skill.
If you read this again, can you write what you did in marketing and why and how finance is a better fit (for you)?
I'm not a very social or creative person. I'm actually a numbers person, which is why I focused on market research. I ended up doing some marketing at a non profit after graduation (internship segued into a job). This was back in the 90s LOL. I liked it the first year, but I got bored really quickly. I was good at anything to do with computers and numbers, but didn't enjoy the creative part or the people interaction part, lol. I also worked trade shows, and I found interacting with people super draining. I was much happier number crunching in front of a computer. Having an accounting/finance background also helped me segue into the IT department which is where I really flourished. Actually, in hindsight, I should've majored in MIS, but I didn't have anyone to guide me.
Is MIS still offered at most colleges? It was (and could still be) a big thing in late 90s into at least 2010. Maybe it evolved into something else with another name?
