What is the impact of first semester grades on RD applications at private schools? Google says as long as there is no big decline in grades, they are fine. I take that means C, D, F? What is the lowest grade to avoid negative impact? Would multiple B, B+ do? Just anxious as DC still has a lot of RD essays to write before the first semster ends. Thanks.
I think there is less grace given for first semester as it's assumed that kids would get the grades up by then. First quarter is viewed differently because a grade can often be based on 1-2 assignments.
So what is the standard? Maintaining the same average GPA as at the end of junior year? Or do they expect to see better performance than junior year?
Maintaining the same standard. Our college counseling office said that first quarter grades can be taken with a grain of salt because in many classes they aren't based on much and some schools don't even issue them but literally just send a snapshot of the screen for colleges. But by the semester grades should generally be legit. Colleges will assume they reflect the student's work.
