OP what if you viewed this more as a hobby than as a business venture? It would remove the expectation that it would make money in the future (but hooray if it does). Like many couples where spending style doesn't line up, you could each have "play" accounts where equal amounts of expendable cash are put. He can use his on his business, and you can use yours for savings or your own hobby or whatever. Once your DH has an actual income stream (or at least begin executing a solid business plan?), then you can reconsider moving it from "hobby" to actual job and drop the separate accounts.
This seems like a good approach. Overall, this seems like a really tough issue which could end your marriage if you don't approach what is (logically or not) his life's passion with some respect. I say this as a person who quit her job and started a business, but it turned a profit from the start. It is still challenging in that my spouse doesn't love how I do this work at home and it takes up quite a bit of the storage and other space in our small home. But, if it didn't at least turn a significant profit, I have no doubt that I wouldn't be doing it.
