That's not for me to say. I think all colleges should have academic freedom from the government. Whether they organically veer to the left or right, I don't care. They should just be free to go in any direction they choose. And students can make their own judgements on whether they want to attend.

Of course, all schools should enjoy academic freedom, but not all schools should enjoy & benefit from Federal research funding grants.

Federal research funding grants are not awarded to a school.  They are awarded to a research team who competes for them based on the proposed research.  The government should stay out of that.  The research belongs to the taxpayers that pay for it and we should try to get The highest quality researchers to produce it regardless of their institution.[/quote]

Sure, but for now and the next few years, the awarding of federal research grants is likely to have more restrictions or considerations than in the recent past. Things change; and the awarding of federal funding of university research is included in the changing landscape. If you don't like the changed parameters, then find your funding elsewhere.[/quote]

Changed parameters?  If you vote to pay for garbage research, you're going to get garbage research.  It's of no use.[/quote]
