I must admit, I'm shocked by this. I figured that if any of those original 9 schools approached by this administration would've throw ethics/morals out of the window and bent the knee to kiss the ring, it'd be they.

That's not for me to say. I think all colleges should have academic freedom from the government. Whether they organically veer to the left or right, I don't care. They should just be free to go in any direction they choose. And students can make their own judgements on whether they want to attend.

Of course, all schools should enjoy academic freedom, but not all schools should enjoy & benefit from Federal research funding grants.

Relationships--whether financial or otherwise-come with restrictions.

Federal research funding grants are not awarded to a school. They are awarded to a research team who competes for them based on the proposed research. The government should stay out of that. The research belongs to the taxpayers that pay for it and we should try to get The highest quality researchers to produce it regardless of their institution.

Sure, but for now and the next few years, the awarding of federal research grants is likely to have more restrictions or considerations than in the recent past. Things change; and the awarding of federal funding of university research is included in the changing landscape. If you don't like the changed parameters, then find your funding elsewhere.

Changed parameters? If you vote to pay for garbage research, you're going to get garbage research. It's of no use.

No. Only deranged maga would think that.

Also —

You think the government should be in the business of telling universities how to run themselves? And extort them into complying?

DP

If they are being racist, then yes.

They did the right thing, but on the other hand USC can’t afford to be targeted by the Trump administration now. Dire financial situation and more incoming lawsuits.

The administration's intention to prioritize certain universities over other's necessarily comes at the expense of prioritizing actual research excellence. They are stating that they will fund a worse project at a preferred school rather than a better project at a non-preferred school. That is an outrageous use of taxpayer money.

Looks like Liberty University, Biola University, Bob Jones University, and Pensacola Christian College are getting all the money…oh wait, the only research they offer is the Old Testament.

No that is propaganda from the RW idiots.

Example: University of Florida professors there for the last 50 years have spewed Christian crap in class. NC State and UNC same. And so many other colleges.

Also preachers screaming on college campuses as kids walk to class.....

RW Christian Nationalists have always been part of college.

I guess that’s why Conservative speakers are routinely greeted cordially when they arrive on campuses.

You can’t force your beliefs down students throats. The administration didn’t block these speakers. The students booed and protested against them. You can’t legislate that some will like your toxic stew of bigotry and hate.
