I am tired of this administration. I don't feel safe about my job, and cannot focus on what I am doing.
If you cannot focus to do your job, then you should not feel safe.
A little exaggerated I just mean - an employee (under the threat of relocation) intending to leave becomes less committed and less productive, and shifts focus toward finding a new opportunity.
If you are early career then find a private sector job.
Not in early career phase. My choice: current USDA position (if no relocation; but relocation is very likely) > another federal position in DC metro area (so that I don't have to move) > accept USDA relocation offer (leaving DC metro area, maybe come back later or moving away permanently) > private sector job (only if being fired, which is unlikely. It is very unlikely that USDA will get rid of more people in my agency, given that many people already left this year, and many more will leave if being forced to relocated). That being said, it is unlikely for me to go to private sector. I will stay with federal for a few more years till retirement.
It’s not certain if and when the USDA will make you move, so I would stay there until you get more details. There may be another federal opening you can get at that time, or maybe a private sector opportunity until you can go back to government.
