DD (9th) is currently trying out for MoCo 14U, Metro 14 central, and Platform 14U. We understand that these are popular clubs that usually have a lot of people trying out. The first two I heard are harder to make due to the small turnover. I've been looking for lesser known club but they are either not in our area (Tenley, DC). Or, have gotten bad reviews. What are some lesser know clubs they you are all trying out for? Want to go somewhere where my daughter has more of a chance to make the team.
If you plan to try out for MOCO, you should sign up for their club prep sessions: https://www.mocovc.org/clubprep
Or not. Trying out for MOCO as a beginner 9th grader is a waste of time and money. This player will likely spend the whole tryout on the 3rd court with nobody watching her.
Unless they play setter or middle. Then they might get a second look.
Do you really believe a beginner setter has a chance to make a MOCO U15 team? Do you know how many setters with club experience try out for MOCO? This is more than wishful thinking. She will be just part of the wrong side of the statistics. To compete with a middle with club experience you need to be very tall and athletic if you don't have club experience. You don't know if this is the case here. This is part of a series of posts trying to increase tryout participation at MOCO just for the sake of it. If you were honest about it, you would have told this parent that the chances are minimal, not just "go ahead and try MOCO"
1. The OP who posted about trying out for MOCO said she's going for U14. 2. In any given season Setters can be one of the hardest positions to find great people for. In our years of DDs playing volleyball in the DMV, weak Setters on what should be very good teams was the most regular shortcoming we experienced. Not at all for every team, but for too many. Agreed though that some here are just trying to drum up more business for MOCO. And trying hard.
