Folate poster here. Not a scientist here but I thought the whole thing was related to a specific MTHR gene variant that causes a problem with folate metabolism. Taking the above mentioned type of folate can be beneficial to some with autism and other MTHR associated conditions but is not a cure. Is this correct? Just a curious person who is trying to understand and no longer knows where to get unbiased information.
Not mthfr. Its an autoimmune condition called folate receptor alpha auto antibodies. This is one of the major causes of cerebral folate deficiency. There are 2 variants along the mthfr gene that can cause clinically significant folate deficiency, but the treatment for that is generally just 5mthfr, or methylfolate.
